Tom Hudson, Ph.D.
Background
Tom Hudson is a venture partner focused on a number of ambitious objectives including support for the development of Versant's Frontier discovery engine in Toronto and broad contributions on new Versant investments. Tom’s combined wealth of pharma and academic experience are a strong addition to the firm’s investment acumen.
History
Tom previously served as senior vice president and chief scientific officer at AbbVie Inc. Prior to that, he led AbbVie’s oncology discovery and early development before becoming head of global discovery research. During his tenure, he fostered a fresh new approach – building critical capabilities in the precision medicine space, spearheading innovative biotech collaborations and developing data strategies to accelerate the pace of drug discovery and development.
Before AbbVie, he was the inaugural President and Scientific Director of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research from 2006 to 2016 where he led the institute’s work in translational research for the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Tom holds a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Montreal and performed postdoctoral work at both McGill University and MIT.
